Listening to
I am quite literally listening to this song as I write this roundup. It’s 8:58pm on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. It is 58 degrees and the evening wind is making whistling sounds outside my sliding glass door. This song is bubbly and filled with innuendos!
Reading
Keeping in the spirit of things I am literally doing right now, I am about a third of the way into this thick read. It’s a story that weaves between natural history and personal accounts of the High Sierra, which is a stretch of the eastern side of the mountain range that roughly runs from Mt. Whitney to Yosemite. It’s in a similar vein as Wild, but less focused on the drama and the romance, and more on the landscape.
Following
Ask me what I’ve done this week. Yes, I’ve binged every single video on this TikTok account. And what. (Do you see what I did there). Anyway, moving on.
Loving
Watching cable at the local bar. Copa America was on, and we don’t have TV. You know who does? The local bar! So we went there, and we had drinks, and we watched soccer.
There is something to be said about going someplace central to do things we’d normally associate with the home (like watching TV). At the bar, there are lovable drunks and people who like to hang out with their neighbors over a game of pool. The wood smells like years of soaked in spilt beer. There are weird little tchotchkes on the walls, like license plates and sports memorabilia. People play music on the jukebox and remind you of songs that your Spotify algorithm would never drag up for you.
Going outside to do things! What a concept.
